Scream-
The scream signifies danger and fear.
It is usually used as a warning to another character that something bad has happened. The scream also shows the vulnerability of a character, therefore them becoming more prone to danger.
Footsteps-
Used to build suspense when footsteps are either coming towards a character or they’re above a character. Also creates an air of mystery when the identity of whom the footsteps belong to is unknown.
Thunder/Rain-
These are both used as omens, to foreshadow future events and the possibility of danger. A sudden burst of thunder can also be alarming to an audience and to a character, causing them to be caught off guard. As well as this, rain blurs a person’s vision, allowing them to be more vulnerable to oncoming danger.
Psycho violin screech-
Possibly the most iconic sound in thriller history. The screeching violin further intensified an already-intense scene
Creaking door-
Used to build suspense when the identity of the person behind the door is unknown.
Creaking connotes a house being old and unused, which creates the suspicion of there being something wrong with it

Gun shot-
Usually amplified to shock an audience. Used to create sudden panic and a sense of danger.
Iconic Sounds Used In THRILLER
Sound is an important feature in thriller movies as it can be used to enhance tension and then release it as the body reacts to different sounds. Some sounds, like the scream, are uncomfortable to listen to and trigger such extreme feelings from an audience. We can incorparate these sounds into our own thriller film now that we have an understanding of how sound can be used to build tension and get a physical reaction out of an audience
